Jorge A. Gomezjurado

Aquaculture and Marine Biology Specialist

Mr. Gomezjurado holds a B.A. in Fisheries Science and Technology from the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral in Ecuador. With over 30 years of experience in aquaculture, marine biology, and aquarium operations, he has built a distinguished career in managing and operating aquaculture facilities focused on research, production, and public aquarium programs. His leadership skills are demonstrated through his ability to maintain productive, enthusiastic, and motivated teams while successfully addressing the unique challenges of these specialized organizations.


He specializes in capital project management, with an emphasis on the design, construction, operation, and management of aquaculture life support systems and aquarium facilities. This includes expertise in filtration systems for both closed and open circulation systems, water quality management, marine water intakes, holding and quarantine systems, as well as public exhibit design.


Mr. Gomezjurado has extensive expertise in the biology and aquaculture of seahorses, pipefish, and seadragons, alongside a broad range of marine organisms. His field and laboratory research have contributed significantly to the reproductive biology of sea cucumbers and the ecology of fish and marine invertebrates in the Galápagos Islands and Eastern Pacific. He has successfully cultured a variety of marine species of commercial and scientific interest, including Atlantic bluefin tuna, European seabass (Branzini), Mediterranean seabream (Orata), cobia, white shrimp, seahorses, marine ornamentals, sea cucumbers, and blue crabs.


In addition, Mr. Gomezjurado possesses comprehensive hands-on experience in marine fish disease prevention, aquaculture biosecurity, larval rearing technologies, fish nutrition, and live food cultures for aquaculture. His knowledge extends to a variety of documentation and permitting procedures, including ethical guidelines, animal welfare, collection, and legal importation protocols.


With a solid foundation in both scientific research and practical aquaculture operations, Mr. Gomezjurado continues to be a key figure in advancing sustainable practices and technologies within the aquaculture and aquarium industries.
